Sharing Creates A Vacuum for Dream Pursuit

Is sharing the key to creating space for our dreams?

Sharing is often associated with caring, but sometimes, sharing can be harmful or hurtful. This made me wonder if sharing is always caring or if sometimes it’s not. Reflecting on this, I realized that there’s a more profound understanding to be gained from this simple phrase.

Write it down on paper

For instance, consider the case of a mother whose son passed away unexpectedly. His siblings debated whether to tell her about his alternative life, but because of her religious background, they decided against it to prevent causing her more suffering. In this situation, sharing would have done more harm than good. It highlights the importance of discernment, knowing that sharing this truth could be harmful or hurtful to others. Before sharing, we should consider the impact our words and actions may have.

We often hear the phrase “sharing is caring,” which holds truth. Not sharing our thoughts and emotions can consume us, creating unease and feeling boxed in. It reminds me of a story from the animated series “Animated Tales of The World.” In one episode, “King March,” the main character learns to share something that could otherwise harm himself or others.

In the kid’s version of this story, the king had been born with horse’s ears after his barber passed away. He commissioned the local barber, known for his love for gossip, to be the king’s new barber. He learned about the king’s secret and could tell no one. He swore on pain of death.

That secret consumed him; he couldn’t eat or sleep until a wise man noticed his suffering. He told the barber he could tell his secret to the Earth. So the barber dug a small hole, whispered his secret, and buried it. The barber’s appetite returned, and he was sleeping again. Unbeknown to the barber, reeds grew in that spot and later harvested to make an obe. During the festival, the piper played the obe, revealing everything. There will be times that things come to light that we might not want others to know about because of misconception on our part, but it turned out it was better received than we once thought.

It’s an example of what we can do when we want to share something safely. We can also see sharing as expressing. When you don’t express yourself, you stagnate. Our mental real estate gets cluttered. How do we know? For myself, I felt restless, which then led to frustration. What are some things you do when your mind’s cluttered? It is through expressing what we need to share that we help to light the load on our minds so that we can focus on what we want, but we must be mindful of what is being shared and with whom it is being shared.

When you share, when you express. When you declutter or free up that mental real estate, you will receive insight, inspiration, and motivation to bring about the life of your dreams. Just like you Feng Shui your house, you can do the same by Feng Shui your mental home. Here are a few ways of doing that; this action list came from the 5 Second Rule by Mel Ribbons, which explains that you have to act on that thought within five seconds of having the idea.

Exploring the Depths Within

  • What are some thoughts that have been taking up too much mental real estate?

  • In what life area have you not been sharing or expressing yourself?

  • Which action-taking tools work best for you?

  • How can you improve these action-taking tools to craft a more impactful approach?

  • What are the underlying fears or barriers that prevent you from entirely using your action-taking tools?
